About Honest MRR
Last updated: October 6, 2026
Honest MRR (honestmrr.com) is subscription analytics for indie founders and small SaaS teams: it turns your billing data into metrics you can check. Connect Stripe, Paddle, Lemon Squeezy, RevenueCat, Superwall, Polar, Patreon, Whop, or Qonversion with the most limited key the provider offers and get monthly recurring revenue (MRR), churn, lifetime value (LTV), and cohort reports built from the provider's own records — no spreadsheets, no manual exports, no cron jobs.
Most analytics tools hand you a number and ask you to take it on faith. We do the opposite: every subscription figure is computed from a ledger of movements that syncing never edits. Open any movement to see its ledger entry and, where we have them, the provider event and the subscription record behind it — and every billing record we receive is fingerprinted in a tamper-evident hash chain. When an investor asks how you got your MRR, you have an answer.
The whole business, without muddying the number
A subscription figure alone isn't the whole story, so Honest MRR covers the rest — while keeping every stream in its own lane:
- Verification. Apple App Store and Google Play reports are compared with your store revenue month by month — they check the number, they never add to it.
- Other income. Affiliate and creator payouts (Amazon Associates, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, OnlyFans) — uploaded as CSVs, or read daily from a report link you save — are realized revenue on their own line: a commission has no renewal behind it, so it never pretends to be MRR.
- Acquisition. Ad spend from TikTok, Meta, and Google Ads — connected over OAuth and used only to read spend, or imported from those platforms' CSV exports (Microsoft Advertising too) — powers CAC, payback period, and LTV:CAC.
- Top of funnel. Google Analytics, Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster put sessions and search performance next to the revenue they eventually become.
- The bottom line. Enter your operating costs and cash on hand, and revenue becomes net profit, burn, and runway — the "months of life left" number every founder actually runs on.
The rules that keep the number honest
The essentials are below; every rule is written out on how we calculate MRR.
- Each dollar has one home: app-store reports check subscription revenue rather than add to it, and commissions stay out of MRR. RevenueCat, Superwall and Qonversion all read the same store money, so connect one of them per app.
- Trials are excluded from MRR until they convert — except on Patreon, which doesn't mark free trials, so they count at the pledge amount. Metered usage is reported separately.
- App-store subscriptions count proceeds — the money that reaches you after Apple's or Google's cut, estimated at 15% when the source doesn't report it — not the sticker price. You can switch your reports to gross.
- History doesn't quietly rewrite itself: a sync never edits a recorded movement and deletes one only to stop a subscription counting twice, a change to a subscription we already track is recorded on the day it's found, one we've never seen arrives with its real history, and currency conversion uses the rate as of each movement's date (what can change a past month).
How it works
- Paste the most limited key your provider offers — read-only wherever one exists. We use it only to read your data, never to move money or change your customers or subscriptions (how we protect it).
- Every subscription imports automatically, dated from when it started; a webhook (a guided step) keeps everything current — without one we resync daily — and you can resync any time.
- Reports build themselves: overview, MRR, movements, trials, realized revenue, churn, cohorts, customers, acquisition, traffic, and cash flow.
- When it's time to tell the story, write a monthly investor update, save a monthly statement as a PDF, share an expiring report link, or publish an opt-in open-startup page with a live MRR badge.
- Pull the same numbers into your own tools with the metrics API or CSV exports.
- Your data stays yours — export it or delete it from inside the app, any time (what we keep).
Who it's for
Indie founders and small SaaS teams who want the metrics the big tools charge for — without the black box, and without the spreadsheet busywork. If you've ever rebuilt your MRR in a spreadsheet because you didn't quite believe the dashboard, Honest MRR was built for you. Weighing other tools? Here is how Honest MRR compares, including when another tool is the better pick.
