Lemon Squeezy MRR, churn & LTV analytics

Connect Lemon Squeezy and Honest MRR builds monthly recurring revenue (MRR), movements, churn, lifetime value (LTV) and cohort reports from the records Lemon Squeezy sends, with every MRR movement open to inspection — so you can show an investor where a number came from.

You connect with a Lemon Squeezy API key (existing stores). Honest MRR uses it only to read — it never moves money or changes your customers or subscriptions.

Before you connect: Existing Lemon Squeezy stores only. Since Lemon Squeezy joined Stripe, new sign-ups are routed into Stripe and can't create Lemon Squeezy keys — connect Stripe instead.

How MRR is computed from Lemon Squeezy

  • Lemon Squeezy is a merchant of record: MRR uses its tax-exclusive prices, and realized revenue is what was charged minus the tax Lemon Squeezy collects.
  • A cancelled subscription keeps counting through the grace period it has already paid for, and churns when Lemon Squeezy marks it expired.
  • Discount codes aren't subtracted: MRR counts each subscription at its plan's price.
  • Every price is amortized to a monthly amount — annual plans divided by 12, weekly and daily plans scaled up — and past-due subscriptions still count but are flagged at-risk.
  • Trials count as zero until they convert.

The full rule set is on how we calculate MRR.

How this differs from Lemon Squeezy's MRR and ARR charts

Lemon Squeezy's dashboard takes a daily snapshot of your MRR and ARR and counts percentage-based recurring discounts toward them. (Lemon Squeezy's docs, checked October 4, 2026)

Honest MRR reads the same Lemon Squeezy records and adds:

  • One ledger across billing providers — Lemon Squeezy next to any of the nine we support.
  • An audit trail an investor can follow: every MRR movement opens to its ledger entry, the webhook event when one recorded it, and the current Lemon Squeezy record, and every version we receive is fingerprinted in a tamper-evident hash chain.
  • Share links and monthly statements you can save as PDF, plus ad spend for CAC and payback, and costs for burn and runway.

Honest MRR counts subscriptions at their price before discounts, so with active discount codes Lemon Squeezy's figure can be lower than ours.

If Lemon Squeezy is your only billing source and you don't need an audit trail or investor statements, Lemon Squeezy's MRR and ARR charts may be all you need.

Staying current

Every subscription imports when you connect, dated from when it started — months before you connected show each one at its current price. A webhook keeps MRR current as events arrive; without one, Honest MRR resyncs daily.

Connect Lemon Squeezy — step by step

These are the same steps the in-app guide shows on Settings → Connect after you sign in, where “the field below” and “your connection card above” refer to that page.

How to connect Lemon Squeezy — step by step
  1. Open Lemon Squeezy's API settings and sign in ↗

That's Settings → API in the Lemon Squeezy dashboard. If your store was created after Lemon Squeezy joined Stripe, this page won't exist for you — your billing lives in Stripe, so connect Stripe with a restricted key instead.

  2. Check which mode you're in

Keys are per mode: a test-mode key reads test data, a live key reads real data. Leave test mode off unless you're connecting test data.

  3. Click "+" (top right), name it, set the expiration

Name it "Honest MRR". Keys last up to a year — when one expires, syncing stops until you paste a fresh key (re-keying is always allowed).

  4. Copy the token immediately

It's a very long token, shown only once — copy the whole thing before closing.

  5. Paste it in the field below and click "Connect Lemon Squeezy"

The key is validated, encrypted, and only its last 4 characters are ever shown again.

  6. Wait for the backfill to finish

A connection card appears above (Queued → Backfilling → Synced); your history imports automatically.

  7. Live sync, part 1: add a webhook ↗

Recommended. Copy the webhook URL from your connection card above, then in Settings → Webhooks click "+" and paste it as the callback URL.

  8. Live sync, part 2: type a signing secret and choose events

Lemon Squeezy asks YOU to type the signing secret — make up a long random string (a password generator works). Select the subscription_* and order_* events, then save.

  9. Live sync, part 3: paste that same secret here

Paste the exact string you typed into the webhook field on your connection card above — the two must match.

What happens to the data

Honest MRR keeps the latest verbatim copy of every object Lemon Squeezy sends and fingerprints every version in your organization's append-only hash chain, so the MRR you show investors traces back to the records it came from — and a later edit to any of them is detectable. Credentials are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. Details are on the Security and Privacy pages.
