Patreon MRR, churn & LTV analytics
Connect Patreon and Honest MRR builds monthly recurring revenue (MRR), movements, churn, lifetime value (LTV) and cohort reports from the records Patreon sends, with every MRR movement open to inspection — so you can show an investor where a number came from.
You connect with your Creator's Access Token from the Patreon developer portal. Honest MRR uses it only to read — it never moves money or changes your customers or subscriptions.
How MRR is computed from Patreon
- Pledges are recurring, so active patrons count toward MRR at their pledge amount.
- Pledges billed every few months or annually are amortized to a monthly amount.
- Patreon's platform fee isn't available through its API, so MRR shows the pledge — your actual payouts land a little lower.
- A patron who cancels churns when the period they paid for ends, not on the day they cancel.
- Every price is amortized to a monthly amount — annual plans divided by 12, weekly and daily plans scaled up — and past-due subscriptions still count but are flagged at-risk.
- Patreon's API doesn't mark free trials, so a patron on a free trial counts toward MRR at their pledge until the trial lapses — the one provider where trials aren't left out.
The full rule set is on how we calculate MRR.
How this differs from Patreon's Insights dashboards
Patreon's Earnings dashboard records your gross and net income after fees, and counts a canceled member on the date their access expires. (Patreon's docs, checked October 4, 2026)
Honest MRR reads the same Patreon records and adds:
- One ledger across billing providers — Patreon next to any of the nine we support.
- An audit trail an investor can follow: every MRR movement opens to its ledger entry, the webhook event when one recorded it, and the current Patreon record, and every version we receive is fingerprinted in a tamper-evident hash chain.
- Share links and monthly statements you can save as PDF, plus ad spend for CAC and payback, and costs for burn and runway.
If Patreon is your only billing source and you don't need an audit trail or investor statements, Patreon's Insights dashboards may be all you need.
How realized revenue is counted from Patreon
Realized revenue — the cash collected — records each patron's most recent paid charge, valued at their current pledge, whenever Patreon is synced. Of the charges from before you connected, only each patron's most recent one is included, and a pledge changed before the next sync restates that last charge.
Staying current
Every subscription imports when you connect, dated from when it started — months before you connected show each one at its current price. A webhook keeps MRR current as events arrive; without one, Honest MRR resyncs daily.
Connect Patreon — step by step
These are the same steps the in-app guide shows on Settings → Connect after you sign in, where “the field below” and “your connection card above” refer to that page.
How to connect Patreon — step by step
- Open the Patreon developer portal ↗
Sign in with the creator account that owns the campaign.
- Register a client (any name/urls) and copy the Creator's Access Token
The token is shown on the client after creation — no OAuth dance needed for your own campaign.
- Paste it below and connect
Members and their pledges backfill; active patrons count toward MRR at their pledge amount.
- Live sync: add a webhook
In the same portal, create a webhook for members:pledge:create/update/delete pointing at your connection card's URL, and paste its secret into the card.
Patreon's API reports PLEDGE amounts; its platform fee (5–12% + processing) isn't queryable, so MRR shows the pledge and actual payouts land a bit lower. It doesn't mark free trials either, so a patron on a free trial counts toward MRR until the trial lapses.
What happens to the data
Honest MRR keeps the latest verbatim copy of every object Patreon sends and fingerprints every version in your organization's append-only hash chain, so the MRR you show investors traces back to the records it came from — and a later edit to any of them is detectable. Credentials are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. Details are on the Security and Privacy pages.
